Grammar Level A: “Mouse”
Ready to Read
Ages 5-7
Phonics and Reading: Level A students are introduced to one letter of the alphabet at a time, learning both its sound and how to write it with proper form. By the beginning of the second week, students begin blending letters into words. Reading progresses steadily as new letters are added week by week. Through daily recitation of the alphabet and letter sounds, with special emphasis on short vowel sounds, students gain a strong foundation in the phonetic code needed for reading and spelling. Students also learn 90 common sight words and practice them regularly through flash cards, oral review, and dictation. To support reading success, students receive abundant practice through more than 40 phonetic stories, beginner books, and colorful readers.
Writing: Level A students learn to write the words they are learning to read. They practice proper letter formation, pencil grip, and posture so that writing can become comfortable, orderly, and beautiful. Weekly dictation helps students listen carefully to a word and write the letters that correspond to the beginning, middle, and ending sounds they hear. Students also practice copywork, carefully copying short Scripture and poetry passages. Within the context of these copied verses, students are gently introduced to grammar patterns, sentence structure, punctuation, and more complex word spellings.

Latin: Level A students begin joyful early exposure to Latin through daily recitation, conversational phrases, songs, and prayers. This gentle introduction helps students become familiar with the sound and rhythm of Latin while building memory, confidence, and delight in language.
Math: Level A students begin Arithmetic 1(Click for scope and sequence), focusing on number sense, number formation, and foundational arithmetic skills. Students begin memorizing addition facts and explore everyday math through hands-on practice, hundreds chart activities, daily calendar work, oral and mental problem solving, coin values, and telling time. These early math lessons help students develop accuracy, confidence, and a strong foundation for future arithmetic.
Physical Education: Level A students will participate in at least 15 minutes of free play recess and 15 minutes of daily P.E. instruction using the SPARK P.E. curriculum. SPARK provides structured, research-based physical education lessons that help students develop healthy habits, physical fitness, motor skills, movement knowledge, and positive social skills.
